Went out to help Mum move the little wooden bridge off the pond so she could lay plywood down instead.
There was a pile of snail shells underneath, all smashed or bitten open, cleaned out, and stashed between the two support boards of the bridge. Like, not just shoved under the edge, but actually deep under the thing like the snails had crawled up out of the pond and gone there to die themselves.
Mum said it was the raccoon that comes around, which wouldn’t surprise me. But how did it get the shells under the bridge?? So then she thought maybe rats?? Kinda seems more likely…??? But the breaks on the shells are sharp and clean-edged, which rules out bites I think????
So we just gave up and blamed alien ghosts.
